Autonomous Piano-Playing Robot

Designed, built, tuned, and programmed a fully autonomous piano-playing robot. Created custom 3D brackets, custom PCBs, and a noise reduction system. Competed in the Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair with the piano-playing robot.

Designed a unique 88-key self-playing piano modular robot with a complex control system that emulates human piano playing
Used the engineering design process and problem-solving to integrate mechanical, electrical, and software elements into the robot
Achieved 100% accuracy with piano playing due to intelligent design and consistent automation
Used EasyEDA to design custom PCB boards to control 88 solenoids, each with 255 different power levels and a noise-dampening system
Simulated movement with Onshape and created basic renders in Blender, allowing for digital peer review before reiterating prototypes

Competitive Robotics

Designed, built, tested, programmed, and drove robots at the international level. Captain of the robotics team with 60+ members, started a mentorship program and promoted continuous learning.

Mentored and inspired teams, resulting in 5 rookie teams winning awards for the first time and qualifying for the provincial championships

UBC Physics Olympics

Boat Render — Render of 2025 boat prototype

Designed, built, and tested multiple prototypes for physics build challenges. Had limited resources and heavy time constraints for the builds that took place. Competed provincially with 100+ schools around the province.

Prototyped a stored momentum cooler for a copper plate with Onshape and simulated mechanical linkages before construction
Designed a paper solar-powered boat with a custom PCB made with EasyEDA to harvest solar power and trigger a motor to spin at a certain voltage
Managed a $100 budget for 2 years to create 4+ working prototypes of the stored momentum cooler and solar-powered boat
Effectively project-managed and guided a team of 20+ junior team members through the engineering design process
Used creative thinking to work around limited materials to create prototypes, which were tested for reliability and consistency
